A Note on Tithing

Is it wrong for a believer to give TITHES (of his income) in Church? That question has 2 answers! NO and YES!!!

NO: it is not wrong for a believer to give 10% of his income as a financial devotion to God primarily for the Spread of the Gospel and the welfare of the saints!

YES: it is wrong for a believer to give tithes in church …when he feels

i. He is robbing God if he doesn’t…

ii. The devourer will eat his finances because he couldn’t give 10%…

iii. Tithing is a law to believers in Christ!

Now listen carefully: in the new covenant, there is no such thing as ‘tithing’! It is simply ‘giving’! Paul had several occasions he taught on giving.Not once did he reference tithing.It was always cheerful, willful and personally decided giving.And the ‘percentage’ for this ‘giving’ is to be chosen by YOU… not by Malachi!You are not under “Malachi’s” dispensation please!Face the one that concerns you!

‘…Every man ACCORDING AS HE PURPOSETH IN HIS HEART, so let him give…’ (2 Corinthians 9:7)

That verse is so clear…yet many believers still don’t see it! In the new covenant, it is always ACCORDING AS YOU PURPOSETH IN YOUR HEART! Choose the percentage that works well with your expenses and budgets! You are not under any law that it must be 10%! It can be below 10%… It can be 10%… It can be above 10%…

‘… let every one of you lay by him in store, AS GOD HATH PROSPERED HIM…’ (1Cor. 16:2)

As God has ‘prospered’ you…give! Personally, choose your percentage! And when you have learnt that the New Testament giving is personally decided, don’t stop there…move to the next level of learning to give sacrificially also. Just make sure a specified proportion of your income always go to the blessing of the Gospel.

Listen carefully: the Gospel was designed by God TO BE SPONSORED by those who heard it and benefited from it.

‘…In the same way, the Lord ordered that those who preach the Good News SHOULD BE SUPPORTED BY THOSE WHO BENEFIT FROM IT…’ (1Corinthians 9:14 NLT)

This should be clear enough! Here is the ‘Gospel-rule’ you must never forget: If it is blessing you…then you ‘must’ bless its spread in return! Don’t say because you are not under Law to ‘tithe’…therefore you reduced your giving drastically! No. The knowledge of Grace should motivate you to a ‘bountiful’ giver. Only be sure you are sponsoring the right gospel. The Gospel of Christ, His finished works for us and the welfare of the saints.

Therefore, be a bountiful giver. I believe this is clear?
