Read This Before You Sing “We Are The World”

Let’s talk briefly about popular songs vs believers singing them.

Do you remember this song composed by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie titled USA FOR AFRICA (we are the world)? Oh, what a sweet song. Sang by so many people all over the world! In fact, the video featured the coming together of many other Rock and Pop celebrities…in a ‘state of the art’ studio recording! All these people came together to portray their heart towards charity and fund raising for the less privilege in this song. Hmm… This seems to go down well with the Gospel teachings on charity …right?

‘…For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in…’ (Matt 25:35)

Hence, you hear many believers singing this song passionately! Hmm… But… Have you tried to listen to the lyrics of the song carefully before? I will put the lyrics here and show you a mind-blowing phrase! Read carefully:

‘There comes a time when we hear a certain call

When the world must come together as one

There are people dying and it’s time to lend a hand

To life the greatest gift of all.

We can’t go on pretending day by day

That someone, somewhere will soon make a change

We are all part of God’s great big family

And the truth, you know, love is all we need

We are the world, we are the children

We are the ones who make a brighter day so let’s start giving

There’s a choice we’re making, we’re saving our own lives

It’s true we’ll make a better day just you and me

Well, send them your heart so they’ll know that someone cares

And their lives will be stronger and free

AS GOD HAS SHOWN US BY TURNING STONES TO BREAD

And so we all must lend a helping hand

We are the world, we are the children …’

Wow! Did you read what I just read??? AS GOD HAS SHOWN US BY TURNING STONES TO BREAD!!! Hmm.. Which God showed us love by TURNING STONES TO BREAD? If this line has a scriptural connection, then I’ll gladly love to show you the ‘god’ referred to here!

‘…AND THE DEVIL said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command THIS STONE THAT IT BE MADE BREAD…’ (Luke 4:3)

So, which ‘god’ do you feel this song referred to by saying; ‘…AS GOD HAS SHOWN US BY TURNING STONES TO BREAD’? THE DEVIL!!! Hmm…The fact that a song carried the word ‘GOD’ should not fool you into approving or singing it!Jesus NEVER showed us anything by turning stones to bread!Jesus NEVER turned stones to bread!Rather, He gave up His life for us and His Life became our BREAD OF LIFE! (John 6:48-50)

Therefore, from every Biblical deduction, that song-line is either a worship to the devil…or…a sacrilege to say Jesus obeyed the devil!!! Hmm… Please mind the songs you sing! The fact that a song is sweet is not enough permission to sing it! Take time to listen to the lyrics!

Personally, I’m turned off from any song immediately I notice a subtle sacrilege on my God and Saviour, Jesus Christ! I guess you should too as believers! Don’t say it was just ‘a line’ in the song. The knowledge of what Jesus did for you and how much He loves you definitely forbids you from approving any song or movie that supports the following:

– USES HIS NAME IN VAIN! ‘…They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name…’ (Psalm 139:20)

– REDUCES HIM TO A MERE MAN! ‘…because you, a mere man, claim to be God…’ (John 10:33)

– USES HIS NAME IN CONJUNCTION WITH AN EVIL OR IMMORAL ACT! ‘…the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul!…’ (Mark 3:22)

– MAKES HIM SUBJECTED TO THE DEVIL! ‘…By the prince of demons he is driving out demons…’ (Mark 3:22)

Hmm… Those should be your prerequisites to singing any song as a believer! Be a believer in deed by glorifying Jesus in every way you can!

Never forget: Jesus never turned stones to bread! Rather, He gave up His life for us and His Life became our BREAD OF LIFE! (John 6:48-50)

If you find yourself unconsciously singing a song with such controversial lines, then be fast to correct the lyrics of the lines to what it ought to be!

‘…as God has shown us BY GIVING HIS LIFE AS BREAD…’

Hmm… Always glorify Jesus in every way you can!

I hope this message is clear?

Remain under Grace.

Amen.
