Review of Proverbs 10

Review of Proverbs 10

by Pastor Temilolu Olasijuwomi

RIGHTEOUSNESS IS FIRST A NOUN (A GIFT) AND THEN A VERB (AN ACTION)

It is as much a gift as it is a lifestyle.

1Jn. 3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

We see from the passage above that since a believer is righteous, he does righteousness. The Believer must be orderly in his or her conduct. While we appropriate the following in our spirit, we must also conduct ourselves in godly manner before men.

1Cor. 14:15 What should I do, then? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray also with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will sing also with my mind

As we think and speak and act from a spiritual stand point, we must also live reasonable lives before men. Therefore, as sure as our righteousness is in Christ, we ought to live up to that stature before men, so they see our good works and glorify God in Heaven.

THE BLESSINGS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

The righteousness of faith delivers from embarrassment. The believer is Righteous, and has only blessing upon his/her head. You may declare the following blessing on yourself and carry a consciousness of them through your life. Most verses are taken literarily from the Good News Bible, others are from the KJV.

1. All forms of security are the believer’s portion in Christ: Eternal, Financial, Emotional, Job etc. On the other hand, honesty they say is the best policy. In business and in life, dishonesty can deal a lasting blow to the dishonest person. Pro 10:9, Pro 10:25, Pro 10:30

2. Declare: I speak wise words in Jesus name. The words of my mouth are seasoned with salt in Jesus name. The words of my mouth open doors of favour for me in Jesus name. My words bring comfort and not sorrow. At your place of work, when a solution is needed to an issue they will find it in your mouth. Pro 10:31, Pro 10:32

3. Declare: My expectations are met; I leave a joyful life in Jesus name Pro 10:28

4. Declare: I get what I want in Jesus name. I shall not be in want in Jesus name. I will not be subject to hunger in Jesus name. Pro 10:24, Pro 10:3

5. Children of God don’t hustle, we work hard and we work smart, but with a consciousness of God’s blessing upon the work of our hand. This is activating grace on our work. Your income will be that of grace and not of works.

Pro. 10:22 It is the LORD’s blessing that makes you wealthy. Hard work can make you no richer.

6. I receive blessings in Jesus name. My life attracts blessings in Jesus name

Pro. 10:6 Good people will receive blessings. The words of the wicked hide a violent nature.

7. Pro. 10:7 The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.

This was one of the passages used as a student, our memory is blessed. The believing student can also appropriate this to himself or herself. If you find yourself forgetting things frequently, you can pronounce this blessing upon yourself, that your memory is blessed. You have a sound mind. On the other hand, righteousness helps one to leave a good legacy that generations will thank God for.

ON LAZINESS

While carrying a consciousness of God’s blessings, a job may not always be readily available, but a work is always available. There is no one that cannot find something to do, even if a job is not readily available at the moment. There must be some skill that you can monetize and if you don’t have any, you can learn one.

Rom. 12:11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord

2Thess. 3:10 … this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

Eph. 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

The believer must be productive. Laziness is a disease. Children of God must be up and doing. Poverty is a bye product of a slack hand or mind.

Pro. 10:4 Being lazy will make you poor, but hard work will make you rich.

Pro. 10:26 _ever get a lazy person to do something for you; he will be as irritating as vinegar on your teeth or smoke in your eyes.

ON PLANNING Verse 5

Gathering in the summer is synonymous to planning ahead and doing the right thing at the right time. Being spiritual does not knock out the need to plan. Have a saving culture and an investment mentality.

Luke14:28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

ON PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

Believers should develop themselves by seeking information that will make them better. Take an online course; meet someone to put you through on something you’ve always wanted to do. If you are not yet married, you have all the time in the world to add value to yourself in the direction of your passion. Get all the knowledge you can on a field you have passion for and pursue it.

Pro. 10:14 The wise get all the knowledge they can, but when fools speak, trouble is not far off.

Pro. 10:23 It is foolish to enjoy doing wrong. Intelligent people take pleasure in wisdom.

ON COUNSELING AND MENTORING

This is closely related to the previous point on personal development. However, first and foremost, Holy Spirit is our counselor. You can also get a mentor, someone who has done what you intend to do with a level of success and submit yourself to their guidance. Be willing to also take corrections where necessary regardless of how harsh they may be. You don’t have to repeat other people’s mistakes or waste time and money that could have been saved if you just got a quality advice.

Pro. 10:17 People who listen when they are corrected will live, but those who will not admit that they are wrong are in danger.

Pro 10:8 Sensible people accept good advice. People who talk foolishly will come to ruin.

ON OUR UTTERANCES

Eph. 4:29-31 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Get rid of your bitterness, hot tempers, anger, loud quarreling, cursing, and hatred. GW

Let me say this here; It may be fashionable to use words like “FUCK YOU” and other curse or swear words, but not with the believer. As much as you can, such words should not proceed from our mouth.

Do you know that the words we speak can grieve Holy Spirit? Believers don’t speak carelessly. Imagine our words are likened to silver, or a fountain of life.  Our words should build people up and not tear them down. Encourage and not discourage. Don’t hold back the truth from someone who needs it just because you don’t want to offend them. This is for someone; if you love someone, let them know, you have nothing to lose. You can show it without saying rather than holding back. On the other hand, if someone offends you, let them know rather than keep malice with them. That way, trouble can be avoided and peace will reign.

Pro. 10:19 The more you talk, the more likely you are to sin. If you are wise, you will keep quiet.

Pro. 10:20 A good person’s words are like pure silver; a wicked person’s ideas are worthless.

Pro. 10:21 A good person’s words will benefit many people, but you can kill yourself with stupidity.

Pro. 10:32 Righteous people know the kind thing to say, but the wicked are always saying things that hurt.

Pro. 10:11 A good person’s words are a fountain of life, but a wicked person’s words hide a violent nature.

Pro. 10:10 Someone who holds back the truth causes trouble, but one who openly criticizes works for peace.

I hope this blessed you?
