To what extent is a believer saved? Past… Or present… Or does it include the future too? To find our answer, let’s just employ the first 2 verses of Romans chapter 5. It reads:
‘…Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: ..by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God…’ (Romans 5:1-2)
Let’s break the verses down into 3 unique parts:
1) ‘…Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…’
2) ‘… by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand…’
3) ‘… and rejoice in hope of the glory of God…’
Ok… We are almost done with these. Now follow carefully:
The first point above, ‘…Therefore being JUSTIFIED BY FAITH, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…’ The tense used here is in the Past tense. And this clearly implies that ALL YOUR PAST SINS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN! Good? Ok. Let’s move on.
‘… by whom also we have ACCESS by faith into this GRACE WHEREIN WE STAND…’ The tense used here is in the present tense. If you are a believer in Jesus, you are currently STANDING IN GRACE!!!And that implies ALL YOUR PRESENT SINS ARE FORGIVEN in Christ. So says the Bible. Not me.
So we have seen our ‘past’ and ‘present’ sins dealt with already!
…for the 3rd point… ‘… and rejoice in HOPE OF THE GLORY of God…’ Clearly a future clause. It is therefore scripturally safe to conclude that the atonement of Jesus for a believer saves him past, present …and future.
“…Therefore he is able, ONCE AND FOREVER, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf…” (Heb. 7:25 NLT)
Glory to Jesus. A true and careful intake of this knowledge doesn’t make you sin but rather makes you live your live to glorify the ONE who ‘died your death’…and saved your life from eternal damnation! Filling you with a joy in HOPE of the glory of God.
Therefore rejoice.
Amen.
