Someone said…
‘When Jesus comes, only those who are not in the act of sin at that very moment will be saved…’!
Can you imagine such reasoning? I guess you also have struggled with the opinion that those who are ‘sinning’ when the trumpet sounds, will not be raptured! Hmm….
Now listen carefully: Sin is not only WHAT YOU DO! Sin is also what you ought to do that you DIDN’T DO! Hmm…. Sin is not only what you ‘commit’…sin is also what you ‘omit’!
‘Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and DOETH IT NOT, to him it is sin.’ (James 4:17)
Do you know it is good to ‘love your neighbours as YOURSELF’? (Matt 22:39)
Do you know the Bible says you should ‘turn the right cheek for another slap after you were already hit on your left cheek’? (Luke 6:29)
Do you know you are to ‘PLUCK out your eyes if you had peradventure looked lustfully’? (Matt 5:29)
Do you know you are not to get angry at night? (Eph 4:26)
Do you know you are not to greet your neighbour with blessings with a loud voice early in the morning? (Prov 27:14)
Do you know you are to always PRAY for your enemies? (Matt 5:44)
Do you know that you are not supposed to go to work for one year if you just got married? (Deut. 24:5)
Do you know you must not ‘think’ about ‘things’ you will do with your ‘wife-to-be’ on your wedding night? (Matt 5:28)
Do you know that every three years, you are to gather your tithe that year…put it in front of your house and call all the poor around you to come and take freely? (Deut. 26:12-13)
The list goes on!!!
Oh…oh…. Don’t be so myopic to think sin is limited to things you do! Sin also comprises of things you DON’T do!
Listen carefully: whether you were committing a sin or not… that does not change your status from being a SINNER! Whether you like it or not… you are still a SINNER!
Please get this: you are NOT a sinner because you SIN!
Hmm… If you are able to understand what I just wrote above, then you will be free from the erroneous thought that it is those that are not ‘sinning’ that will be saved! You are NOT a SINNER because you SIN! You SIN because you are a SINNER! Hmm….This was why Jesus came to die!So that even in your weaknesses… God still sees you righteous because of what Jesus has accomplished for you!
‘For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.’ (Romans 5:19)
I know this might sound too raw to a religious mind…but what I’m sharing with you now was what brought Paul out of his ‘lustful addictions’! (Rom 7:21-25, 8:1-2) No wonder he exclaimed:
‘For what the LAW could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, CONDEMNED SIN IN THE FLESH: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us…’! (Romans 8:3-4)
The verse quoted above is one of the most profound truths on the Gospel of GRACE! If you are a believer, what God did was to CONDEMN SIN IN YOUR FLESH!!! Do you know what that means? Hmm…can you take it? It simply means SIN CAN NO LONGER CONDEMN YOU BEFORE GOD! Hmm…I’m telling you this revelation won’t make you sin more!If you listen properly as a believer, this revelation will enhance your love for God uncontrollably!Hmm….
In conclusion, there was a man who came to Jesus…thinking he was righteous enough to enter heaven. So, he asked Jesus saying:
‘Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?’ (Luke 18:18)
Jesus knew why he was asking so Jesus listed some of the details of the 10 commandments for him. Guess what this guy responded?
‘And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.’ (Vs 21)
Can you imagine? This guy really thought he was fulfilling the Law! He thought sin only comprised of things a man DO! So, Jesus told him one thing he has not DONE!
‘sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.’ (Vs 22)
Wow! The Bible says:
‘And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.’ (Vs 23)
Hmm… Do you know the part of the Law this guy just broke? The FIRST law!
‘Thou shall have no other god (not even money) before Me’! (Exodus 20:3)
Hmm…. When the people who witnessed the scenario between Jesus and that man saw what happened, they said:
‘Who then can be saved?’ (Vs 26)
Wow! I love that question! That means that they have seen that …it is impossible for any man to fulfil the requirements of entering heaven! I love the response of my Saviour to that question!
‘The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.’ (Vs 27)
Wow! That was what Paul found out! God made a way out by the death of Jesus in which He sees us as though we have fulfilled all the requirements to be saved…simply by BELIEVING IN JESUS! Let me quote that verse for you again:
‘For what THE LAW COULD NOT DO (for example, in the life of that guy that came to Jesus), in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, CONDEMNED SIN IN THE FLESH: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us…’! (Romans 8:3-4)
Hallelujah! This should get you excited as it got Paul excited! Paul got so excited at this revelation that he made the following statement few verses later in the same chapter:
‘Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.’ (Romans 8:33)
Hmm…. It is so obvious that Paul has found out something powerful! In the previous chapter (that is Romans chapter 7), Paul was dangling with sin! But in this chapter (Romans 8), Paul was so excited for the Freedom that Jesus revealed to him!
Hallelujah! Therefore, be at rest and enjoy your relationship with God! If you fall into sin…rise up and let the past be past…embrace the finished work of the Cross…Jesus has already died for that sin…now take this LOVE OF GOD and ‘go and sin no more’!
There is therefore NOW….NOW…NOW….no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus! (Romans 8:1)
Remain under GRACE!
Amen.
